greater output, zero vibrations

Curillinque Hydropower Station

Curillinque hydropower station in Chile is owned by Enel. The station was commissioned in 1993 and was equipped with one Francis turbine of 89 MW at a net head of 114 meters.

In 2021, Aker Solutions carried out model testing and upgrading of the unit to improve operational stability over a larger power range. The station had previously been experiencing severe vibrations at higher outputs.

After testing and replacement of most non-embedded parts, the unit was recommissioned in 2023. The upgrade significantly increased the area and range of operate, removing the vibrations, and enabling improved operational flexibility.
